This eLearning module was developed for junior and senior students attending a private liberal arts college. The college’s Career Center Director reported that more than 90% of the students had never been on an interview before which in turn was significantly reducing the number of students landing internships. The desired outcomes for the course were to address the lack of interview skills and preparedness. The challenge of the course was to meet learners at their level and to keep the content delivery engaging and easy to retain. These goals were achieved by the use of a series of relatable characters in decision-based scenarios. Another notable course feature was the development of a custom acronym that the students could draw from to help them remember interview skills on the fly. Visual design was kept bright and airy through use of the institutions signature colors, trademark, and mascot.

A bit of creativity and customization can add some pizzazz to the default “right” and “wrong” feedback layers in Articulate Storyline. In this example, I built a set of custom feedback layers to the course by incorporating the Oak Moss College mascot. To achieve this, I designed each layer by creating static images in Adobe Illustrator and then brought them over to Camtasia to create a short video clip. To add a little more flair, I added some sounds effects, motion graphics, and creative storytelling elements to match the Oak Moss mascot theme. Finally, the video clips were inserted into Storyline as feedback layers with the addition of buttons and triggers to complete the customization.
